GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A musical festival in Gloucester will be held on Sunday to raise money for a good cause.
The Lily Jean Benefit Concert is set to feature several musical acts by local bands, with all proceeds from the event going to the families of the lost ship crew.
The Lily Jean was a 72-foot fishing vessel that sank over 20 miles off the coast of Cape Ann back in January. All seven lives of crew members on board were lost.
The event will be held at The Cut in Gloucester, with performances starting at noon on Sunday. Restaurant manager Tom O’Grady said there were so many musicians and helpers that volunteered, he had to start turning people away.
“It’s all about music. We pulled together 19 bands, all the proceeds would go to the Lily Jean Fund, which goes to all the families,” said O’Grady. “We were just overwhelmed with how many people wanted to volunteer and help, and musicians that wanted to get up, so we had more than enough to choose from.”
O’Grady said along with the music, there will be some other guest speakers for patrons to hear from.
“We’re going to have the main stage and our venue, but we also have a large restaurant, we have a stage there too, so there’s going to be alternating bands going all day,” said O’Grady. “A bunch of speakers, people from the fishing community, local government. It’s going to be great.”
