BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The professional Haiti soccer team arrived in Boston on Thursday just before their 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Scotland, and Haitian Delegates around Massachusetts were ready to party.

The State House was packed Thursday with Haitian Elected Officials, as they celebrated their first appearance the World Cup since 1974. Governor Councilor Eunice Ziegler said she’s looking forward to the Haitian community coming together during the match.

“It’s been 52 years since Haiti has been in the World Cup, and we know we’re showing them what we’re made of on the field,” said Ziegler. “We’re so excited to be here with you. We hope that you’re going to be screaming, cheering, and celebrating loud with us, as we see our team to victory, in gods name.”

Brockton City Councilor-At-Large Jeff Charnel shared a similar stance.

“One thing that we should be proud of is our community,” said Charnel. “One thing that we should be proud of is getting together for good things, and not bad.”

Saturday’s match between Haiti and Scotland will be the first of seven matches to be played at Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium, dubbed ‘Boston Stadium’ for the tournament.

The match is set to begin at 9 p.m.
