NEWTON , Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — With a massive snowstorm hitting Massachusetts this weekend, residents are making final preparations to make sure their vehicles are safe and run properly.
Ozzy Aponte, general manager of Sullivan Tire in Newton, said the shop has been hopping as people get their last minute car checks to confirm everything is in order. They have a list of preparations that they go through with customers.
Items on the list include checking your battery level, coolant fluid, headlights, tire tread depth and pressure, and each aspect of your windshield wipers, including the fluid.
“We have a literal checklist, and it starts with preventative maintenance that you can take a few weeks prior," Aponte said. "The battery terminals, you look for leakage there. Windshield washer fluid is just as important as the wipers because without that.”

The last part of that check list is having a emergency kit with you, with items like a snow shovel, ice scraper, flashlight, food, water, gloves, hats, blankets, and a phone charger.
Aponte also recommends "having something as simple as kitty litter to help you get out of situations if you are in the snow, something that provides traction."
