Hundreds Of Cyclists Ride For Black Lives Boston

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley spoke Sunday to a large crowd of bicyclists in Franklin Park before they took off for the latest "Ride For Black Lives Boston" event.

Hundreds of cyclists gathered on Sunday afternoon at White Stadium in Franklin Park, where they heard from speakers including Rep. Pressley, who told the activists they were "writing the next chapter" in the current U.S. civil rights movement.

"Black Lives Matter, and another world is possible," Pressley said. "We are in the midst of a national reckoning on racial injustice which will require of us a reconstruction; a third reconstruction. With all of you I'm confident that we can build that better world."

Noah Hicks with Ride For Black Lives Boston started organizing the bike rides back in June. They show no sign of letting up, and Hicks said neither do the acts of oppression and injustice against Black people.

"It's being caught on camera a lot more nowadays because people have cellphones," Hicks said, "but this has been reality for Black people for a very very long time. Our lives are pretty much worthless to the state."

The cyclists rode about ten miles from White Stadium to the Haley House Bakery in Roxbury, raising money for Sisters Unchained, an organization for women and non-binary people affected by incarceration.
