SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of senior citizens from across Somerville gathered at Trum Field for the city's annual senior picnic Thursday.
The event gave seniors a chance to not only find services and resources from various city departments such as health and human services and mobility, but connect with fellow residents as well.
"Some of the people we don’t see all the time, but we see them a couple of times a year," said Sue Smith, a 51-year Somerville resident. "There’s here, and then on the Thanksgiving meals, we see some people we don’t see all the time. It’s good to see your neighbors and be involved."
Christine Evans, another resident, said she looks forward to the picnic every year because seniors like herself get spoiled.
"There’s always a goodie," Evans told WBZ NewsRadio. "I’ve gotten caps, I’ve gotten insulated bags."

Somerville Mayor Jake Wilson said the event continues to see great turnouts.
"People love this event," Wilson said. "I think Mayor Gene Brune started this tradition back in the 80s and I love that we continue it here. It’s cool to see it evolve and grow, and I love that people look forward to this so much every year."
