SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — “Bye Bridget” is that’s all Hearth & Hug Bakery owner Natalie Hug had to say to a negative comment her business got over Instagram a few weeks back.
Last month, some businesses participated in a nationwide shutdown to protest federal immigration enforcement.

Hug declined to close her business, citing the need to support her staff and her fledgling business that’s new to Davis Square. Instead, she said the bakery would donate 10 percent of the day’s sales to White Bear Area Food Shelf in Minnesota.
“We couldn’t afford to close for an entire day of business, but we wanted to do something and still wanted to participate in some way,” Hug said.
Since the famed comment, the bakery has been selling stickers, t-shirts, and more, adding to the fundraiser. Hug said the situation was a symptom of how people interact on the internet.
“I hope that people can look at experiences like this and maybe think a little bit more about what they are saying and what they are doing, before they say and so it,” Hug said.
