BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — You should prepare to see all forms of traveling in full effect over Memorial Day weekend.
AAA reported that more than 45 million people are expected to use some mode of travel over the holiday weekend, including planes, cars, and even cruise ships.
As prices at the pump continue to rise, however, some travelers are opting for the rails instead of the roads.
Over two million people are planning to use Amtrak trains this weekend, including Jacob, who was getting ready to depart from South Station on Friday.
“It was a mix of the cost, and I’ve never been on the train before,” said Jacob. “I wanted to try it out.”
Others, like Rasson from Kingston, shared a similar sentiment while heading towards some big plans.
“My mothers’ birthday and my birthday are on Memorial Day, so we’re going to celebrate it,” said Rasson. “The train is less stress, and less expensive.”
Although she wasn’t traveling specifically for the holiday, Boston resident Harper said there’s no doubt that the train is the best way to travel.
“It’s objectively the best way to get around a lot of the time, especially from Boston to New York,” said Harper.
