BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Le Café & Bakery in Boston’s Chinatown is offering up a sweet alternative to typical savory bagels.

Li is the owner of the shop. She explained that sweet dessert bagels are very popular over in China, and she wanted to bring over a taste of her country here to Boston.

“In my country, it's very popular and that they do very good,” Li said. “

Flavors that you can expect to see at the shop include the sweet cream cheese bagel, the blueberry cream cheese bagel, and the strawberry cream cheese bagel.

According to Li, it’s been trial and error since they opened to determine which flavors work the best with the Boston crowd.

Some of the flavors that have clicked the most with customers include the rose and sweet rice bagel, the matcha cream cheese bagel, and the pistachio cream cheese bagel, which is her favorite and one of the top sellers.

With new equipment in tow, Li wants to introduce the mango cream cheese bagel, which is shaped to look like a mango. Now she’s just looking for someone to help make them.

“We will hire a pastry chef at the store, and they will make them every day fresh,” Li said.
