BEVERLY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 66-year-old man is dead after his gyrocopter crashed at Beverly Airport, according to the Essex County District Attorney's Office. The incident happened just before noon on Sunday. On Monday, The Essex County DA's Office identified the victim to be 66-year-old Geoffrey Muller of Manchester by the Sea.

Beverly Police said he was rushed to Beverly Hospital and later died. Gyrocopters are a kind of blend between a helicopter and an airplane: a rotor lifts the craft while another propeller pushes it from behind. The National Transportation Safety board is investigating the crash.

Several witnesses said the aircraft had flipped over just after getting off the ground, and crashed back near the runway, according to the Salem News.
