BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles says it's introducing a new driver's education curriculum on cannabis. The state Department of Transportation calls the current generation of driver's ed students the "first generation" to get licenses since recreational marijuana was legalized statewide.

The curriculum, called “Shifting Gears: the Blunt Truth about Marijuana and Driving,” is published by AAA. Massachusetts is the first state among close to two dozen that have legalized cannabis to introduce a curriculum like this, according to to the RMV.

The RMV says the new curriculum will take effect in January, and will be taught to about 50,000 new drivers every year at the state's 700 driving schools.
