BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — New bike lanes will soon be popping up around Boston streets.
Cyclists around the city have been displeased while riding along busy Boylston Street. The former plastic ‘Flexposts’ were removed during the harsh winter Massachusetts faced, and the city of Boston has announced it would finally be replacing the barriers.
Riders have been frustrated with the absence of bike lane barriers around the city.
“It makes it hard, so if you’re a bicyclist, it makes it dangerous,” said one Boston cyclist. “If you’re a driver, it’s a little scary. You don’t want to be hitting anybody.”
The city said it would be installing new ‘Zebra’ barriers along Boylston, which are small, hard plastic black-and-white barrier bumps. The change couldn’t come sooner for bike riders in Boston.
“I would love it, I don’t want to be near cars at all,” said a Boston biker. “I want to be separated from cars.”
Several ‘Zebra’ barrier bumps were installed back in 2025 along areas like Arlington Street and Stuart Street.
An installation date for the new barrier bumps has not yet been announced.
