BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new survey ranks Massachusetts as the second-best state in the US when it comes to children’s health and education.
The survey was conducted by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, who revealed the ranking in their KIDS COUNT Data Book.
The foundation examined states on education, health, economic well-being and community factors from data collected between 2019 and 2024.
With this information states were given a comprehensive score from 0 to 1,000, with Massachusetts receiving a score of 775, which is above the national score of 547.
The Bay State was beaten out from the top spot by New Hampshire, while other New England states such as Vermont and Connecticut made the top 10 as well.
Some Massachusetts residents say they aren’t shocked by this high ranking.
“I think it makes a ton of sense, I think we put a lot of pressure on our education system to make sure everything’s good up here,” said one man.
Even though the Commonwealth ranks high on the list, the findings show that children and families still face challenges such as reduced snap benefits, expired healthcare subsidies, lack of housing affordability and reduced public school funding.
