BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Former Boston Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron has been named to the Hockey Hall of Fame's Class of 2026.

The announcement was made Monday afternoon. Bergeron made it into the Hall of Fame on his first year of eligibility.

Bergeron won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011, their first title since 1972. He also won a record six Frank J. Selke trophies as the league's most defensive forward and two gold medals with Team Canada in 2010 and 2014. Last week, the Bruins announced they would be retiring his number 37 sometime in the 2026-27 season.

"This honor is the pinnacle of my career and represents the coaches and players that I went to battle with," said Bergeron in a statement on the Hockey Hall of Fame's website. "It’s a surreal honor and I’m thankful that hockey has given so much to me and my family."

Bergeron was drafted by the Bruins in 2003 and spent his entire career in Boston before retiring in 2023.

Also named to the Class of 2026 are other hockey players with ties to Massachusetts. Former NHLer Keith Tkachuk, who grew up in Medford and played for Boston University and Cindy Curley, who grew up in Stow and played for Providence College, will also be inducted as players, along with former Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price and former Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne. Brian Burke, who was born in Providence and served as general manager of the Hartford Whalers in the early 90s, will be inducted as a builder.

The induction ceremony will be held November 9 in Toronto.
