BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police are working to identify a suspect accused of vandalizing a package containing Juneteenth materials at the Boston Museum of African American History this week.

Authorities said a man ripped open the package before scattering and burning its contents. The suspect is described as a white man wearing a dark jacket, a light-colored shirt or sweatshirt underneath, dark pants, and white sneakers.

Museum President Dr. Noelle Trent says that while police haven't called the incident a hate crime yet, she knows it wasn't considered "an act of kindness."

"Where this happened on the property is very outside of public view so it feels very alarming and distressing," she said.

Trent said incidents like these remind her that resilience is at the organization's core, and they are standing steadfast.

"This is a very sobering reminder of the importance of the work that we do," she said.

Their Juneteenth block party is still set for June 19.
