WESTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Retired Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was presented with an honorary degree from Regis College on Saturday.
Ortiz also delivered the commencement speech at the graduation ceremony.
“I am very impressed and proud of each one, and every one of you for being at this place today as graduates,” Ortiz said in his address.
Along with the 900 degrees Regis College bestowed at this year’s commencement, Ortiz was given an honorary degree in recognition of his historic accomplishments in baseball, and his contributions off the field through the David Ortiz Children’s Fund.
According to WBZ-TV, Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera was also given an honorary degree at the commencement ceremony.
