NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Massachusetts is about to lose another beloved movie theatre.
After nearly three decades, the iconic Route One Cinema Pub in North Attleboro will be closing its doors for good on May 31.
The owners say a post-pandemic comeback just is not in the cards, citing declining attendance, rising operational costs, and competition from streaming services after 27 years of service. Hundreds of movie theaters have closed across the U.S. since the COVID pandemic.

In a social media post, the pub thanked everyone for years of support, stating, "our dedicated, hard-working staff would like to express their deep appreciation to all our loyal customers over these years. What we will value most is the countless special people that we will never forget."
Route One Cinema Pub joins The Showcase De Lux Cinema in Randolph, which was sold to Boston-based Core Investments after it closed. Patrons with gift cards to the cinema have until May 31 to redeem them.
