SALEM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The historic House of the Seven Gables in Salem becomes an official affiliate site of the Vincent Price Estate this weekend.
The late horror icon Price starred in the 1940 film "The House of the Seven Gables," an adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1851 novel. The real life colonial mansion of the same name served as the novel's inspiration.
The affiliation between the "Witch City" landmark and the Price Estate kicks off Sunday with an inaugural event on the property's grounds.
The event starts at 5 p.m. with a tasting menu from Ferreira Foods that is inspired by Price's 1971 cookbook, "Cooking Price-Wise."
Victoria Price, the actor's daughter, will deliver remarks at 6 p.m. before a screening of "The Vincent Price Legacy," a new feature-length documentary about her father. The documentary is presented in partnership with Salem Horror Fest and the Cape Ann Community Cinema in Rockport, which is also an official affiliate site with Price's estate.
Following the screening, Victoria will sign copies of her book "Vincent Price: A Daughter's Biography" and her father's cookbooks.
Dakota Russell, executive director of the House of the Seven Gables, told WBZ NewsRadio Friday that the partnership will include future events that embrace Vincent Price's curiosity for life.
"They know him for the horror films, but he was passionate about cooking, he was passionate about art, he was passionate about civic causes," Russell said. "He was right there on the frontlines of the civil rights movement as well, so we're going to play with a lot of programs that explore some of those different curiosities that he had."
The House of the Seven Gables is also partnering with the Salem Arts Association on an annual Vincent Price juried art exhibit, Russell said.
