BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Snow Emergency Parking Bans are in effect across Massachusetts.

Mayor Michelle Wu recently announced a ban will go into effect at 2 p.m. in Boston.

"Preparations for snow are already underway across every neighborhood, and our City teams will be out around the clock through the nor’easter and the cleanup afterwards,” Wu said in a statement. “We ask everyone to plan ahead, stay safe and warm, and stay off the roads to help our public works and public safety efforts. If you see anyone outside during the storm who needs assistance, please call 911. We thank everyone in advance for their patience as we institute this parking ban to get roadways cleared as effectively as possible, and for your partnership to shovel out the sidewalks and crosswalks in front of your property after this significant snowfall so everyone can be safe.”

According to a statement from the City of Cambridge, any vehicles parked on streets showing signage about the ban will be towed and ticketed until the ban is lifted. Residents are encouraged to check signs before parking. The warning comes after more than 300 vehicles were ticketed and/or towed during the winter storm in January.

Locals with Resident Parking Permits issued by the Department of Transportation can find a list of free off-street parking facilities. Visitors will have two hours to leave the parking facilities once the ban is officially lifted. The city also asks residents to clean any snow off their cars if they must travel during a winter storm.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning that will be in effect from 4:00 p.m. Sunday through 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday for most of the state, with snowfall rates set to reach at least 2 inches per hour.
