WOBURN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Sports card collectors were looking to pick up a certain player's card this weekend.
The Woburn Sports Card Show held an event on Sunday, and collectors were on the hunt for Drake Maye cards.
"Drake Maye's hot, people are coming out looking for Drake Maye rookie cards to get ahead of the curve," Sean Fagan, a vendor from North Reading said.
Alex Costa from Billerica said he's new to collecting sports cards, but he knows who everyone is looking for.
"Everybody's willing to pay a pretty penny for Drake Maye, including myself who wants Drake Maye, I'm gonna have to pay a pretty penny but it's awesome," Costa said.
Depending on how the rest of this season and Maye's career goes, the value of his rookie cards could increase greatly over time.
Jeremy Kent, co-promoter of the event, said there's more interest in collecting when local sports teams are doing well.
"With Drake Maye being an MVP candidate and the Patriots in the playoffs, it's very hot right now," Kent said.
Even with many looking to make money from these cards, the true purpose of the event is to bring together those who enjoy the hobby.
"It's really just a place for people to hang out and trade, buy, sell, all kinds of stuff," Kent said.
