Dedham, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs was in court Friday to be arraigned on strangulation and other criminal charges stemming from an alleged dispute with his former private chef last year.
Diggs pleaded not guilty in court to those charges.
“Stefan Diggs is innocent and we expect the facts and evidence, when presented, will prove that he is innocent,” Diggs’s attorney Mitchell Shuster said outside of the Dedham District Court.
Diggs’ court appearance was brief, with neither prosecution nor Diggs defense team offering any further details about the alleged circumstances that led to the charges.
“Not at this time, but they will be presented, and when they are it’ll paint a very different picture, and we are very confident he will be exonerated,” Shuster said.
Diggs faces no disciplinary action from the Patriots nor the NFL at this moment. His attorney expects the case to be resolved without a trial.
