BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A new surgeon general advisory issued this week warns of the dangers of excessive screen time.

The advisory says too much screen time can be associated with poor sleep patterns, decreased academic performance, isolation, and diminished physical activity. Early exposure to screens also carries developmental and cognitive risks, poor language outcomes, mental health, and behavioral concerns, according to health officials.

Some Massachusetts residents agree that too much screen time can be a problem.

"Something amazing could happen and they'll miss it if their face is just buried in it, instead of actually enjoying life," one resident said.

But another resident said it should be "up to the parents" how screen time is regulated.
