DARTMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A suspect is in custody after allegedly kidnapping a Dartmouth infant and his mother Thursday, police said.

According to Massachusetts State Police, Jeremias R. Cabral, 21, of Fall River, forced his way into the apartment of his ex-girlfriend Hannah Benson, 23, on Tucker Road in Dartmouth at approximately 11:20 a.m.

Police said Cabral brandished a knife during an altercation, took Hannah's six-month-old son Grayson Benson, and fled the apartment and entered his vehicle, a Mitsubishi Lancer sedan. Hannah, fearing for her son's safety, followed Cabral and the baby and entered the car herself before Cabral drove off.

At 2:35 p.m., Massachusetts State Police said that all parties involved had been located at an address in Fall River. Cabral was arrested and the alleged kidnapping victims' well-being was being evaluated.

An AMBER Alert was briefly activated before the suspect, mother, and child were found.

It is not known at this time if Cabral is the child's father, according to the MSP.

This is an ongoing story.
