The Old South Meeting House In Boston Prepares To Debut New Show 'Ruckus!'

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Old South Meeting House in Boston is gearing up to debut its brand-new immersive experience called ‘Ruckus!’.

The show transports people back in history to witness the debates and actions that ignited the American Revolution.

This is done by using a variety of tools that project sound, light and animation onto the walls of the meeting house.

“We’re utilizing 6 projectors, 8 gobos and a series of transparent OLED screens,” said Senior Director of Interpretation and Future Projects Matt Wilding.

President and CEO of Revolutionary Spaces, Nat Sheidely pointed out that the show being in a space where actual historical events took place is what will truly immerse audiences into the whole experience.

“You can imagine that the sounds that you heard are just like the echoes of those voices that were in this hall 250 years ago,” said Sheidley.

During a preview of the event on Monday, Josh, a history teacher from Pennsylvania visiting Boston with his family was very impressed with the show.

“It was really cool and I thought it was just going to be like a movie but it’s like moving and almost seemed 3-D”, said Josh.

Those that worked on Ruckus! hope that the experience will act as a springboard for them to learn more history in Boston.

“[Ruckus!] will give them the basic framework to then explore our exhibits and the exhibits of a lot of other sites throughout the freedom trail and beyond,” said Wilding.

Ruckus! opens to the public on July 2.
