MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — There's a tale about Christmas you're about to be told: The Beach Boys are back in the Bay State to perform during their "'Tis the Season" tour at the Chevalier Theatre in Medford Sunday night.

Accompanied by the Holiday Vibrations Orchestra, the Beach Boys will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. with founding band member Mike Love as lead singer. Love tells WBZ NewsRadio that the holiday concert will take the band back to their roots: Christmas caroling.

"The Beach Boys started as a family singing together and we would Christmas carol around the neighborhoods. So, for us this time of year is great, we love all the songs— 'Jingle Bell Rock' is up tempo and fun, and 'Little Saint Nick' is fun, people seem to love that song," Love said.

Love went on to say that Sunday's concert will feature all of the Beach Boys hits, but for this time of year, the setlist will also include songs from the band's original album from the 1960's.

"We gave Santa a hot rod sled, right? That's a really fun song so we did that and then we do a few from an album called 'Reason for the Season," in fact the song is called a 'Reason for the Season,'" Love said.

To celebrate the band's 60th anniversary, Capitol Records released the expanded the 30 hits track list compilation of "Sounds of Summer" earlier this year in June. "Pet Sounds," one of the most famous Beach Boys albums, ranked number two on the Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time," with the band itself landing as number twelve in "100 Greatest Artists of All Time."

Just within the last month, the band dropped a new collection titled "Sail On Sailor — 1972," along with a live performance recording from Carnegie Hall.

Love said that when it comes to the Commonwealth, the Beach Boys are quite fond of the state's capital city.

"Boston is one of our favorite cities in the whole wide world, and we've always loved it. I remember going out and being fascinated by the Cape, we played many a times in Cohasset and Hyannis," Love said.
