BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two young men have been arrested in connection to the explosion at a Harvard Medical School building early Saturday morning, the FBI and U.S. attorney's office announced Tuesday.
Logan Patterson, 18, of Plymouth and Dominick Cardoza, 20, of Bourne were arrested Tuesday morning, U.S. Attorney Leah Foley said. They are charged with conspiring to damage the Goldenson Building on Longwood Avenue using an explosive. Judge Jessica Hedges ordered them released pending trial on Tuesday afternoon.
Patterson and Cardoza were allegedly seen climbing scaffolding onto the building's roof shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Foley said. A short time later, campus police received a report of an explosion inside a research laboratory on the building's fourth floor.
Investigators believe Patterson and Cardoza detonated a large firework inside a wooden locker in the laboratory before exiting the building, going their separate ways, and reconvening alongside a third person later in the morning.
Witnesses allegedly said Patterson and Cardoza were in the area for Halloween activities at Wentworth College.
Nobody was injured in the explosion and the Goldenson Building has since reopened. Investigators are still analyzing the explosive.
