BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Cell service issues on the Red Line are leaving some riders at certain stations frustrated.

Riders that use Verizon as a cell provider are noting a loss of service across several stations on the Red Line.

An MBTA spokesperson said the MBTA has an exclusive contract with American Tower Corporation, an independent owner and developer of multitenant communications real estate, to provide cell service.

The corporation installs the antenna infrastructure and then contracts with cell providers like Verizon and T-Mobile.

The service interruption is the result of a fiber line issue with Verizon; other cell providers are not affected.

Verizon said they are aware of the issue and working to repair the service.
