BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — After Monday's blizzard left behind mountains of snow, volunteers in Boston banded together Tuesday to dig out the city.

Neighbors in Brighton were among the volunteer groups across the city working to shovel sidewalks and ramps.

The snow shoveling meet-ups were formed after the last large snowstorm Massachusetts faced just a few weeks ago. Volunteers are hoping this can change the perspective of those outside the state.

“It’s another good sign that Boston is a community, and that we actually do care,” said one volunteer. “People think that we’re a mean city, and [Massachusetts] is a mean state, we actually do have some love in our hearts.”

While some see shoveling as a grueling task, some of the volunteers found the good in the bad.

“I think it’s awesome, it’s a good way to get outside, get some exercise, see the snow, and meet some people in the neighborhood,” said another volunteer. “It feels good.”
