BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A true hidden gem in Boston's Emerald Necklace park system is the James P. Kelleher Rose Garden.

Since 1931, the garden is known for its winding pathways, elegant fountain, statues, arched trellises, and towering green hedges that create a tranquil “secret garden” atmosphere just minutes from Boylston Street and Fenway Park.

As summer returns, so does 'Tuesday With Roses,' a longstanding summer volunteer program that runs from June through September 29, 2026, with volunteer sessions held every other Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

To ensure the garden continues to flourish each year, the Emerald Necklace Conservancy established the volunteer program in May 2005.

Since then, the program has brought together staff and volunteers annually to deadhead and prune roses, weed garden beds and borders, and provide essential seasonal care that keeps the garden at its peak throughout the summer months.

Over the course of the program’s history, more than 2,000 volunteers have contributed their time and energy, with an average of 110 volunteers taking part each year.

No prior gardening experience is required.

The Conservancy staff provides all of the training, tools, and guidance.

Registration is required to participate.

To register, and for more information about 'Tuesdays with Roses' or other volunteer opportunities, visit Emerald Necklace.
