WATERTOWN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Watertown City Council has approved a revised noise ordinance that now includes fines for violators.
The ordinance restricts when loud equipment like lawnmowers, leaf blowers and chainsaws can be used for commercial or residential purposes.
People can only use the equipment from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
The revised ordinance also sets limits on tonal noises that range from buzzes, whines or high pitched and continuous hums from things like HVAC units.
After a written warning, people who violate the ordinance will be given fines that start at $100 and can increase to $300.
However, residents like Joseph say they don’t support the fines.
“I haven’t seen it being much of an issue to begin with so I don’t see how the fines would really have that much of a major impact,” he said.
