BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Bruins rookie Charlie McAvoy went down seconds into Saturday's overtime win over the Canadiens. He'll miss at least four weeks with a sprained left MCL.
But, Torey Krug's stepped up in the defenseman's absence.
Krug has two goals and four assists in two games without McAvoy, and he's actually riding a personal four-game point-streak with three goals and six helpers during that stretch.
Bruins Depth Will Be Tested Without Charlie McAvoy
Krug said he's happy to take on a larger offensive role with McAvoy out.
"He's a guy that plays in every situation, a lot of minutes against top-quality players," Krug said of McAvoy. "You want to be the guy that, they put more on your shoulders, and more on your plate in front of you. Definitely, the last time he went out of the lineup, I felt that I took another step in the right direction in my game, and obviously I want to continue that this time."
Krug ranks fourth on the B's in scoring with 47 points, including 13 goals and 34 assists. He's averaging 20 minutes of ice a game.
Boston will try to extend its four-game winning streak tonight at the Garden when it hosts Philadelphia at 7 p.m.
Bruins blanked the Flyers 3-nothing in their only other meeting this year on December 2nd.
