BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Bruins Patrice Bergeron and Bruce Cassidy were up for some hardware at the NHL Awards last night, but fell short. Kings star Anze Kopitar took home the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward. Bergeron finished third for what would've been his record fifth Selke.

"It's an honor to be alongside these two players, amazing players I respect a lot and who have a huge impact on their team," Bergeron said. "It's well-deserved for Anze, speaks for itself, you know? He was nominated for the Hart as well."

Cassidy was the runner-up to odds-on favorite Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant for the Jack Adams Award.

"I think Gerard did a great job, so good for him, I'm happy for him," Cassidy said.

So can Cassidy put a bow on last season?

"Some real positives this year, but, we talk about it all the time, we want better, we want more, we always do," he said. "The pro meetings for us, first of all, kind of address our group with different opinions and where we need to get better, what we liked. Dallas, and after free agency, then we kick into it a little more--at least, for a coach, knowing a little clearer idea of what your personnel's gonna look like, without assuming the young guys who are gonna come in and compete for spots."

The NHL Draft starts tomorrow in Dallas. B's have five picks. Any chance Bruce wants to share his Coach of the Year speech?

"Save my speech--maybe next year, who knows?" he said.
