BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Tom Brady spent last week watching Brian Hoyer take the lion's share of the reps in the Patriots' preseason-opening win over the Redskins but, tonight, the future Hall of Famer's expecting to see some work in a Super Bowl rematch with the Eagles.

"I think the plan's always to play," Brady said. "Whether I do or don't is up to coach, but yeah, I certainly plan on being out there."

Kickoff in Foxborough's at 7:30 p.m., and Brady knows reps are important this time of year.

"I think there's a lot of urgency, and we're not where we need to be," he said. "We got a lot of work to do, and these practices are a part of it. The opportunities that we get in the game, when everything's full, live, quarterbacks getting hit, that provides a little different element."

Brady took 16 snaps against the Texas in the second exhibition last year, and passed for 67 yards and a touchdown on nine attempts.

Over the last five years, the QB's only sat out the second preseason game once. That was in 2016. In the four contests he's played, he's averaged about 17 snaps.

And, there's obviously value in Brady working with a receiving group that's really turned over. Danny Amendola and Brandin Cooks are gone, and Julian Edelman will be suspended the first month of the season, so he'll have to build chemistry with the likes of Phillip Dorsett, Eric Decker, and Cordarrelle Patterson.
