BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Rex Burkhead's back. Patriots activated the running back to the 53-man roster after placing him on Injured Reserve in late-September with a concussion.

Burkhead's played in three games, with 86 yards on the ground and another 31 in the air.

With the Pats set to host the Vikings Sunday, Burkhead will be eligible to play, and coach Bill Belichick discussed the back's versatility in the offense.

"The big thing for every player on offense is just playing with consistency, and getting all 11 guys to do the right thing play after play, and we've had a lot of plays where that's been the case," Belichick said. "I think there were a lot of errors but we're moving closer, but Rex has certainly showed the ability in the time he's been here to do that from an assignment standpoint. He's a versatile player that can be involved in all three, actually all four downs with a high level of execution in the running game, the passing game, and the kicking game. We'll take as many of those guys as we can get."

Burkhead totaled 518 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns last year in just 10 games. His return and unpredictability in the offense will complement Sony Michel and James White well.
