BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Bruins are preparing for their winner-take-all Game 7 with the Blues tomorrow night at the Garden. When the final horn sounds, Boston or St. Louis will hoist the Stanley Cup.

But, as we're all too often reminded as sports fans, life comes first—and we learned that again in the middle of Game 6 Sunday when news broke Red Sox legend David Ortiz was ambushed and shot in the back in his native Dominican Republic.

After a lengthy surgery, Ortiz is back in Boston now, recovering at Massachusetts General Hospital, but Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy and players Marcus Johansson and Karson Kuhlman have the big man in their thoughts.

"I wish him well, a speedy recovery, and hopefully he's back to health in a hurry," Cassidy said.

"I mean, everyone's shocked obviously, it's terrible news, and we just hope that he's doing alright and everything will be fine," said Johansson.

"It's terrible," Kuhlman said. "He's a huge role model for a lot of people, especially out in Boston, but just in the sporting community as well. It's a tough thing to see."

The Red Sox held a moment of reflection for Ortiz before last night's 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Rangers.
