BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts were voted in as all-stars. But, now the Red Sox will have a third representative on the American League squad Tuesday in Cleveland.

Xander Bogaerts will replace Rangers’ Hunter Pence, who is out with an injury.

Bogaerts felt disrespected after not being named to the team originally. But, he said after Wednesday night’s loss in Toronto that he’s excited.

“A lot of happiness. Obviously a lot of joy before the game. Right now, there’s not much of that. I shared the moment with my family, letting them know. I think those are special moments. Also, with your teammates,” Bogaerts said. “I appreciate them for getting me in and I’ll work real hard for it.”

Bogaerts struck out in each of his four at-bats Wednesday night. But through 83 games, the shortstop is batting .297 with a .922 OPS, 16 homers, 58 RBI, a league best of 28 doubles. Plus, he scored 64 runs.
