Let's Talk Celebrity Talk

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Every once in awhile when I feel like a break from the hard news of the day, I like to wallow in celebrity news, just like any other red-blooded American.

And every time I talk about it here I get an email or two from angry listeners wanting to know how I could waste time on something so trivial, with all the serious stories demanding our attention.

To those folks, I apologize in advance, but this is one of those days.

Still, in light of your concerns, let’s try to find the deeper meaning in some of the lighter-than-air celebrity news of the moment.

First, there’s the firestorm sparked by Tom Brady’s get-up at the Met Ball in New York the other day.

As a big Brady fan, let me just say right now there is nothing wrong with wearing a black tuxedo jacket with gold, fleur-de-lis style embroidery on the lapels over a black turtleneck – if you’re a valet at the Playboy Mansion. Otherwise, it’s as if we were there in the $20 million Brady-Bunchen Manhattan condo when they were getting dressed as Giselle satisfied her sense of humor.

Then there’s the peace treaty that makes the dustup over Iran seem like a footnote, between pop stars Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. Apparently, they’ve been feuding, but Katy sent Taylor an olive branch with a nice note, and that broke the ice.

I urge Taylor, who owns a home in South County, Rhode Island, to send Katy a summer’s supply of Del’s in return.

And then there’s the big one, the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, now only ten days away.

Talk about a warm bath of meaningless pomp and instantly forgettable ceremony!

We can’t wait!

Or….can we?
