BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — You’ve got to hand it to millionaire First Daughter Ivanka Trump.
She has clearly inherited her dad’s knack for stirring things up.
In an interview with Fox News, Ivanka weighed in on the left-wing talk of a guaranteed job with benefits for every American.
“You’ve got people who will see that…and think ‘yeah, that’s what I want, it’s that simple.’ What do you say to those people?” wonders Ivanka. “I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something. People want to work for what they get.”
This is not the first time we’ve heard this kind of rhetoric from people born on third base and celebrating the triple they think they hit.
You may recall Mitt Romney’s epic 2012 rant about the “47 percent” of Americans “who believe government has a responsibility to care for them.”
And there’s no question, Mitt and Ivanka have a point.
Consider all of the money we give people—corporate subsidies and massive tax cuts for the rich, SSI and Aid to Families with Dependent Children for the poor.
Think of all the seniors and veterans who somehow expect their medical bills to be paid.
How dare they.
I do agree with Ivanka that “people want to work for what they get.”
I’m just not sure, looking at the way she and her family make their money, whether we agree on what the definition of “work” is.
