NightSide with Dan Rea - Rundown for July 29, 2021

The Massachusetts Mask Conundrum. There is ongoing debate in Massachusetts over whether face coverings in schools should be required this Fall. A coalition of over 200 medical and public health experts in the Commonwealth sent letters to Gov. Baker and Department of Secondary and Elementary Education Commissioner Jeff Riley pushing for a universal mask mandate in all public schools. Current policy says that masking will be lifted this Fall. However, Gov. Baker said he is considering a mask mandate for schools. Are you in favor of universal masking in our public schools this Fall?

The Influx of COVID-Infected Migrants. The CDC and the White House are pressuring Americans to wear masks whether they are vaccinated or not to stop the Delta variant of the Coronavirus. At the same time, the Border Patrol is releasing COVID-infected migrants into the U.S. under the guidance from the Biden Administration. Is this influx of undocumented immigrants one of the main reasons the Delta variant is flourishing?

Cop-less in Seattle. The city of Seattle is losing its police officers and crime is rising as a result. Over the past 17 months the Seattle Police Department has seen 250 officers leave and Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan says they expect that number to rise to 300. This year the total number of people shot in Seattle has risen by 61%. These statistics follow last year’s initial call by a majority of the Seattle City Council to defund police. Was defunding the police really such a good idea? Would you want to be a police officer in Seattle?
