Will Boston Get Snow On Christmas?

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- If you're hoping for a White Christmas this year, National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Dellicarpini has some bad news for you.

As he looks ahead, he sees no snow globe quaintness for the coming holiday. For one thing, we're in an extended dry period--and, when precipitation does roll in, as it possibly will this weekend, we'll be in a stretch of warmer weather with temperatures in the upper 40s.

"The odds are kind of favoring average, or even slightly above average temperatures as we go into the end of December," Dellicarpini said. "But there's really no signal right now to say if it's going to be significantly cold or significantly snowy."

But Dellicarpini said fans of snow shouldn't give up hope just yet.

"As we know here in southern New England, things can certainly change," he said. "I would advise everyone just to pay attention to the latest forecasts, and we'll see if we can gin up a white Christmas."

There was a frosting of white for the holiday last Christmas, care of snow squalls that blew into Boston on Christmas morning.
