BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Julian Edelman earned Super Bowl MVP honors after 10 catches for 141 yards, but he told WBZ TV the Patriots’ defensive unit deserved the award.
"This is the real MVP—those guys held that offense to three points," he said. "Coach Flo did a great job, Coach Belichick did a great job of getting those guys ready. D-Mac, Mac, J-Mac, all the fellas ... It was awesome to win this."
But this is 13 straight playoff games with at least five catches for Edelman. In fact, during the run, he's averaged 8 grabs for 103 yards. How does he explain HIS clutch gene?
"Honestly, I don't know," he said. "I just try to go out and have a good week of practice."
His quarterback Tom Brady said he was thrilled.
"He played the best game he has all year," Brady said. "So proud of him, what he's accomplished, coming back from his ACL. He just fought it out, grind it out like everybody else."
Edelman’s now second all-time in league history in playoff yards and receptions, and he’s ready for a parade back in Boston.
"I expect two million people," he said. "We just got six!"
Six championships in 18 years, and now a pair against the Rams. Incredible.
