NEEDHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Authorities in Needham, Mass. searched the Charles River for more unexploded ordnances on Monday.
The Needham Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Marine Unit and Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad conducted a “precautionary sweep” of the Charles River near the Kendrick Street Bridge. Needham Police said in a Facebook post that “other than a few miscellaneous items, no other ordnances were located in the vicinity.”
Massachusetts State Police said the divers did recover a “large elongated tank containing an unknown substance,” but it did not contain any hazardous materials. The Needham Department of Public Works disposed of the tank.
The closer inspection came after two unexploded ordnances were found by magnet fishers since March 1st. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad has since detonated and destroyed both devices.
