BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Methuen officials report that a 12-year-old student at Tenney Grammar School was arrested and charged with making a threat against the school and one of its employees.
On Monday, the principal informed Methuen Police of an alarming social media comment made in response to a post on the school's official Instagram account. The student threatened to "shoot up" the school, referencing a specific employee. Police quickly tracked down the juvenile owner of the account, who was arrested, booked, and released into his mother's custody. Methuen K-9 officers were used to search the student's home, but no weapons were found.
"When we receive any allegations that there's a school threat, any allegations of violence - or specifically firearms of that nature - we immediately take action and well prosecute to the fullest extent of the law," Methuen police said in a press conference.
The juvenile is charged with making threats to a school, and threatening to commit murder. The suspect will be arraigned Tuesday in Lawrence Juvenile Court.
