BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Boston Police have released the names of the two victims in Monday's Jamaica Plain shooting.
32-year-old Christian Green, of New Bedford, and 34-year-old Jose Martinez, of Boston were shot and killed near the Mozart Street Playground off Centre Street in Jamaica Plain Monday night.
Boston Police responded to a report of a person shot near Bolster and Mozart Streets around 9:53 p.m. They found two men in their 20s or 30s suffering from gunshot wounds.
One died at the scene. The other was later pronounced dead after being rushed to an area hospital.
Mayor Marty Walsh said he spoke to Boston Police Commissioner William Gross, who was increasing police presence in the area.
Walsh has a previously-scheduled Neighborhood Coffee Hour event at the playground where the shooting happened from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
"People are going to come concerned, [there are] two schools in the area," Walsh said. "That area's not used to seeing this type of activity."
The shooting scene is between the John F. Kennedy Elementary School and Nativity Prep.
The mayor said he's calling on the adults causing violence in the city to stop.
"A lot of the young people get labeled and blamed for the violence in the city," Walsh said. "We're seeing these last few homicides we've had in the City of Boston, these are people, not kids, in their 20s and 30s and 40s."
Police are asking the public to contact them with any information they have about the shooting.
They can contact Boston Police via their CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS, or text the word "tip" to CRIME (27463).
According to the Associated Press, the deaths bring the number of homicides in the city this year to 20.
