BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- New Celtics center Greg Monroe joined Boston early last month and got off to a slow start. A very slow start. Just under 6 points and 5 rebounds spanning 14 minutes per game his first six times in a C's uniform.
Thursday night, it was a different story in a 134-106 blowout of the Hornets.
Monroe played 21 minutes and hit 6-of-9 shots for 14 points. He added 4 boards.
The big man said it felt good getting into a rhythm when Brad Stevens called his number. He took his time and was aggressive.
Greg, what'd it mean to you to show fans what you can do?
"It was fun," he said. "I know fans expect a lot of the team, this team's been playing at a high level. I just wanted to come in, and try to enhance what they've already got going."
Monroe's been putting in extra work outside of practice to get up to game speed and get his legs under him.
He said the biggest challenge has been getting a feel for Boston's defensive schematics and coverages.
