Brock Holt's Roster Spot In Jeopardy, But He's Not Sweating Playing Time

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Brock Holt was limited to 64 games last year--largely because of injuries--and, when he did play, he struggled with a .200 average, six extra-base hits, and seven RBI.

But, the utility man's performing better early in spring camp with a .308 average.

Thing is, it may not be easy for him to see the field this year.

First, there's a chance Blake Swihart could beat him out for a roster spot.

Or, if he is on the club, there shouldn't be as many at-bats to go around as it maybe seemed when Red Sox camp began because Boston's since signed J.D. Martinez and Eduardo Nunez.

The Red Sox All-Star is anxious for a bounce-back year.

Still, Holt said he's not losing sleep thinking about playing time.

"I don't think anyone here's going to change the way they go about their work, go about their business," Holt said. "Everyone comes in trying to get ready for the season. I don't think adding guys is going to change the way anyone goes about their business."

He said the team added "two really good players."

"Any time you add guys like Eduardo and J.D., it's only going to lengthen the lineup and make us a better team," he said.

The Sox are off Monday, and will face the Rays in an exhibition game Tuesday.
