BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The Bruins have started their six-game homestand with three wins to move within six points of the Lightning for the top spot in the NHL, and new defenseman Nick Holden knows he's surrounded by a special group.
"Pretty exciting, energetic team," he said. "We like to play fast, transition fast ... it's nice, we got a good system where you kind of work from the inside out, and that goes from the d-zone into the neutral zone into the offensive zone. We're not taking a ton of chances to create offense--we're playing the right way, play fast, so it's fun to watch our forwards work."
The team will return to the Garden ice Tuesday night against the Red Wings at 7 p.m., but they'll be shorthanded.
With Tuukka Rask And Anton Khudobin, Bruins Are Thriving In Net
The Bruins have three straight victories, and much of their season-long success has stemmed from great goaltending.
Goalie Tuukka Rask has been in goal for all three Boston wins over Detroit this year, but he's out with a very minor injury, so Anton Khudobin's expected to get the nod after a brilliant performance to edge Montreal in overtime Saturday.
Rookie top-pairing defenseman Charlie McAvoy's dealing with a lower body injury - reportedly a knee problem - which means players like Holden, Matt Grzelcyk, Adam McQuaid, and others will have to help fill the void.
Red Wings have lost their last three by a combined 10-5 margin and they have little to no shot of reaching the playoffs. They rank 28th in the league in goals scored.
