State Supreme Court Holds Preaservation Funds From Acton Church

BOSTON, MA (WBZ-AM) --  There’s a setback for a church in Acton, and it comes from the state supreme court.

On Friday the state supreme court put a "community preservation" grant made to the acton congregational church on hold, ruling that a judge needs to take a closer look at whether it's right to grant public money to an active house of worship

Attorney Eric Rothschild, with "Americans United For Separation Of Church and State" applauds the state supreme court decision that puts on hold a public grant of "historic preservation money" to the Acton Congregatonal Church

A dissent came from justice cypher, who points out that churches in Massachusetts are an important part of history, and the court should not jeopardize their access to preservation money.

WBZ NewsRadio1030's Carl Stevens reports.
