Fast Moving Fire In Worcester Critically Burns Woman

WORCESTER, MA (WBZ-AM) -- A Worcester woman was rushed to the hospital with  hospitalized with critical injuries as a result of fire in her basement apartment on Kendrick Street Monday morning.

Firefighters who were a block away arrived around 11:00 a.m. and got the woman out.

Deputy Fire Chief John Sullivan, says a number of oxygen tanks were recovered from the apartment.  He says that it is believed to have led to the blaze and help accelerate the flames very quickly. 

The woman is said to be a heavy smoker.

She was rushed to UMass University Hospital  with serious burns after a fire in the basement apartment on Kendrick Avenue.

Amanda hutchins who lives next door tried to help.

"I tried to help, I couldn't do it. the smoke got to be too much," Hutchins said.
