Red Sox Hurler Drew Pomeranz Taking It Slow Recovering From Arm Injury

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Red Sox fans didn't have high expectations for Drew Pomeranz last season, which maybe made it all the more fun when the lefty starter went out and matched Chris Sale's team-high 17 wins while finishing second on the staff with a 3-32 ERA.

Pomeranz has started one game this spring, but exited after one inning with a strained flexor tendon.

He threw a bullpen session yesterday, though, and said he's feeling pretty good.

Pomeranz will toss to hitters Friday, but told NESN he's ramping up slowly since it's still spring training and he has a little more time to work with than when he suffered a similar injury last season and didn't miss a start.

"It's a little different in season than preseason," Pomeranz said. "You can handle things a little differently now than in the middle of the season, when you can't really take time off. You need to be out there pitching. But right now, it's still early, so we kind of have the opportunity to stay ahead of things, and I think that's what we're doing, being smart about it."

Eduardo Nunez Healthy And Ready To Slot For Red Sox

Sox players are ramping up, including their new starting second baseman.

So is he concerned about the setback at all?

"It's nothing too serious, it's just something to be aware of," he said. "It's just me cleaning up my mechanics and working on a few things to stay on top of it."

Good news.

Sox are off Tuesday. They'll matchup with the Twins tomorrow with Sale on the hill.
