Bruins Surge To Third Period Win But Injuries Loom

Brad Marchand's Boston Bruins exploded for five goals in the third period of last night's 6-4 comeback in Carolina against the Hurricanes. There have been wins in seven of eight for the B's, and that one had to be the best of the year – or, at least, the most exciting.

“It’s exciting,” Marchand said. “It gives you a bit of an adrenaline rush, when things start to go your way. It’s a little demoralizing, when we’re going through the second period the way we did, but as soon as we got that second goal you just kind of felt a rush come through you and excitement gets back in you and that belief. That’s a dangerous, dangerous tool.”

“It’s a lot of fun, when you’re coming back like that,” the winger said. “It doesn’t always work out but, when it does, it’s very exciting.”

Boston's just four points shy of Nashville and Tampa Bay for the top spot in the NHL, with games in-hand on both. The Bs are down to their last 14 games of the regular season, with the next two in Florida - tomorrow against the Panthers and Saturday versus the Lightning - an especially important matchup.

Biggest cause for concern, though: injuries. Patrice Bergeron's out with a fractured foot and Charlie McAvoy has a sprained MCL.

Marchand returned from his upper body injury last night and David Backes suited up after his suspension, but Zdeno Chara, Torey Krug, and Jake DeBrusk all left early with injuries and did not return. No word yet on their ailments or tomorrow's lineup.
